PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus configured to properly detect regularly reflected light from a subject, a medium type determination device, and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: A relative positional relation between an optical path length changing member and a medium type determination light source 32 with respect to a two-dimensional image sensor 27 is determined so that a difference between an incident angle &thetas;1 from the medium type determination light source 32 to a first regular reflection position LP1 and an incident angle &thetas;2 from the medium type determination light source 32 to a second regular reflection position LP2 is equal to or larger than a reference value. The reference value is determined so that an optical image in the first regular reflection position LP1 does not overlap an optical image in the second regular reflection position LP2 on a light-receiving surface of the two-dimensional image sensor 27.
