NEW MATERIAL:1,3,5-Tris[(trishydroxymethyl)methyl]hexahydrotriazine of formula. USE:Catalyst and crosslinking agent for various urethane foam, hardener, cure accelerator, and crosslinking agent for epoxy resin, curing agent and vulcanization accelerator for rubber latex, and electrode-protecting agent. It is useful also as a raw material of other chemicals taking advantage of the reactivity of the tertiary amino group and primary hydroxyl group. PREPARATION:The compound of formula can be produced e.g. by reacting 1mol of trihydroxymethylaminomethane with preferably about 1.2-2.5mol of formaldehyde under heating preferably at 60-90 deg.C. The formaldehyde is used as an aqueous solution containing preferably 1-10wt% methanol and 30-60wt% formaldehyde.
