<p>Disclosed are a mobile device and a method for estimating the direction of movement of a user. The mobile device (100) comprises an inertial sensor (112) for capturing an acceleration signal based on the movement of a user and a direction estimation module (120). The direction estimation module (120) determines the direction of gravity based on filtering of an acceleration value obtained from the acceleration signal captured by a low-pass filter in order to identify a plane perpendicular to a direction of gravity. The plane perpendicular to gravity includes two orthogonal axes perpendicular to a direction of gravity. Moreover, a displacement value is evaluated based on integration over time of the acceleration value crossing two orthogonal axes, and user input for arranging the mobile device (100) with respect to a body of a user. The direction of movement of a user is evaluated based on a ratio of displacement values according to two orthogonal axes.</p> |
