Class 144(2) To avoid over-heating of a tyre in the region of the tyre shoulders the continuous side edges 7 of a tyre tread 3 are each undercut by a circumferential air channel or recess 8 so that the tread side edges 7 overhang the tyre shoulders and the thickness of the carcase rubber in the shoulder regions is substantially the same as that of the side walls. As shown spaced radial ribs 10 having openings 11 adjacent the bottom of the recess 8 serve to buttress each side edge 7 whilst allowing them to flex under working conditions. |
