Disclosed are a backlight unit for a liquid crystal display and a liquid crystal display including the same. The backlight unit includes an LED light source; a light conversion layer which is separated from the LED light source, converts incident light from the LED light source in to white light, and emits it to a liquid crystal panel; and a light guide panel which is located between the LED light source and the photoelectric conversion layer. The photoelectric conversion layer includes semiconductor nanocrystal and matrix polymer. The matrix polymer includes polymer formed by polymerizing a first monomer having at least two thiols (SH) at an end and a second monomer having at least two carbon-carbon unsaturated bonds at an end.
