FORMS OF RIFAXIMIN AND USES THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: rifaximin polymorphic, salt, hydrate, and amorphous forms; their use in medicinal preparations; and therapeutic methods using them associated with non-invasive Escherichia coli, a micro-organism which is not able to penetrate into GI mucosa and therefore remains in contact with the gastrointestinal tract.SOLUTION: A pharmaceutical composition contains: one or more of ζ, γ-1(ζ), &eegr;, α dry, ι, mesylate and amorphous forms of rifaximin, which is a compound of rifamycin class of antibiotics; and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Also provided is a method of treating, preventing or alleviating a bowel related disorder by using the composition.
