The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition and a food composition for prevention, treatment and improvement of asthma, the composition comprising, as an active ingredient, a Euonymus alatus extract or a fraction thereof. The Euonymus alatus extract or the fraction thereof of the present invention has excellent effects not only in relieving airway hypersensitivity, and inhibiting infiltration of inflammatory cells into the bronchus, but also in inhibiting generation of IgE in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and in inhibiting expression of Th2 cytokines (IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13) in the lung. Thus, the Euonymus alatus extract or the fraction thereof of the present invention is an ingredient which overcomes side effects of the currently used therapeutic agents for asthma, has no toxicity, and exhibits a superior therapeutic effect, and thus can be usefully used as a composition for prevention, treatment and improvement of asthma.
