PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter in which a torque transmission path is always connected between a motor and an engine except for idling of a one-way clutch provided in a vehicle, capable of eliminating the influence of a failure of the one-way clutch or the like on vehicle running as much as possible to enable the vehicle to run in a limp mode.SOLUTION: A fail-safe section 43 is provided in a starter 1 and the fail-safe section 43 is broken when a one-way clutch fails to operate normally and a torque is transmitted from an engine. By doing so, even if centrifugal breakage occurs to a motor 2 to generate loss torque in the motor 2, a starter pulley 3 and a pulley shaft 7 are able to rotate without the influence of the loss torque in the motor 2 since the fail-safe section 43 is broken to shut off a torque transmission path. Owing to this, even if a failure of the one-way clutch or the like occurs, the loss torque of the engine can be suppressed to minimize the influence of the loss torque on vehicle running to, therefore, enable the vehicle to run in a limp mode. |
