The applicator (10) has application rollers (14) driven against each other and in a web travel direction, where a material web (37) is guided between the rollers during an operation of the applicator. Feeding devices are provided along application roller axes (20) for adjusting contact force acting between the application rollers and the material web. The feeding devices are provided with a measuring unit for measuring the contact force such that operations of the feeding devices are performed based on the measured force.
