The method involves storing length of binding thread (2), and tensioning the binding thread by a thread tensioning device (7). A book block is thread-stitched. A single actuator (29) is actuated with different values for storing and tensioning the length of binding thread and for tensioning the binding thread. A single tubular shaft (24) is rotated around a shaft axis for storing the thread and for tensioning the thread. The binding thread in first and last sewing needles of the thread-stitching machine is threaded into an eyelet (23) of a thread compensation device (5). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an apparatus for facilitating thread-stitching of a book block (2) a book production line (3) a method for operating a book production line.
