A turret-lathe or like machine includes a control-drum automatically movable with the turret and carrying a number of manually preadjustable members adapted to actuate, at the indexing of the turret, elements for giving a desired machine operation, the members comprising rods journalled in the drum adapted to be locked in selected positions, each rod having radially projecting members spaced around its periphery to engage valve members supplying- air under pressure to cylinders adapted to perform the desired adjusting operation. A turret-lathe, Fig. 1, has the spindle driven from a motor (not shown), through a gear-box 10 which is operated by two levers 11, 12. Each lever is rockable by an air cylinder 13 or 14, respectively, into two operative end-positions, combinations of these giving four different spindle speeds. Indexing mechanism for a turret 7 is extended through a shaft 43 and gearing 45 to drive a control drum 40, Fig. 2. The drum is rotatable in ball bearings 42 and carries six rods 48 (one rod for each turret station). The rods are pre-set by knobs 51 to place a row of changeable studs 50 in a position where rotation of the drum brings them against valve controlmembers 26-31. The valves control the air supply to the gear-box operating-cylinders and thus the correct spindle speed for each turret operation is selected. The valves may also be arranged to control the feed of the turret and further control-drums may be provided.</p> |
