The present invention relates to an electrochromic device and a method for producing the same. The electrochromic device of the present invention comprises an active layer disposed between first and second electrodes, wherein the active layer includes a carbon-based material and a viologen-based compound which are bound by non-covalent interaction. The electrochromic device can be used for a flexible display, a smart window, a discolored mirror, etc.
