PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently cool a heating element while suppressing the power consumption in an image display device.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal projector 1A displaying images includes: a heating element 16; a cooling unit 14 that cools the heating element; a temperature sensor 15 that detects the temperature of the installation location of an image display device; and a control unit 20A that acquires information on the temperature gradient indicating a change in temperature of the heating element over a predetermined time, and sets the cooling level of the cooling unit so that the cooling level when the temperature gradient is a first temperature gradient becomes lower than the cooling level when the temperature gradient is a second temperature gradient, which is larger than the first temperature gradient. |
