<p>Provided are: a liquid crystal composition that contains at least one type of compound represented by general formula (i) and at least one type of compound represented by general formula (M-1), and has a dielectric anisotropy at 25°C of greater than 0 but not more than 5; and a liquid crystal display element using said composition. The present invention provides a liquid crystal composition in which Δε is positive, wherein the electrical capacitance (CLC) of a liquid crystal layer can be kept low, driving is executed at a low voltage that is practically sufficient, and at least one of the following is satisfied: the liquid crystal phase covers a wide range of temperatures, viscosity is low, solubility at low temperatures is good, specific resistance and voltage holding ratio are high, or the composition is stable with respect to heat and light. The present invention further provides, at a high yield, a liquid crystal display element with which display defects caused by burn-in, drip marks and the like can be suppressed and which exhibits excellent display quality, and the invention provides a liquid crystal display element using the liquid crystal composition.</p> |
