Apparatus for the reduction of body surface tumours comprises a supporting structure to be attached to the body adjacent the area to be treated, a retractable arm and hammer assembly rotatably mounted on the supporting structure and spring means connected between the supporting structure and the arm and hammer assembly to urge the assembly from a retracted position to a position overhanging the supporting structure whereby a blow may be administered on the area to be treated. The supporting structure comprises a supporting plate 11 secured to transverse curved plates 12, 13 which are slotted to receive straps 15 by which the device is attached to the body. A U-shaped clip 17, which rotatably carries the hammer and arm assembly, and a hairpin spring 21 are secured to the supporting plate 11 by a rivet 22 on which they may be rotated relative to the supporting plate 11. The arm 23 is hollow and is rotatable on a stud secured across the U- shaped clip 17. A hard rubber hammer head 39 is secured to the arm 23 by a universal joint and is urged towards the part to which the blow is to be administered by a spiral spring 33 housed within the arm 23 and secured to the arm 23 and to the stud. Ratchet teeth 29 are normally engaged by the hairpin spring 21 to hold the arm 23 in retracted position against the action of the spiral spring 33. On depressing the hairpin spring 21, the spiral spring 33 is released and the arm 23 and hammer head 39 rotated to administer the blow.</p> |
