1. A method for operating a mobile device to perform a transaction between a customer and a merchant, where the mobile device is operated by the customer to initiate transaction processing, the method comprising:
obtaining a checkout token associated with the transaction; causing the checkout token to be communicated to the merchant over a near field communication (“NFC”) communication link for use in communication between the merchant and the transaction management system associated with the transaction; receiving, from said transaction management system, information associated with said payment transaction; and transmitting, to said transaction management system, a message including information for use in completing said transaction.
