Provided are electronic device and a key prompting method. The electronic device comprise a touchscreen, multiple transparent deformation units, a first detection unit, a first determining unit, a second determining unit, and a generation unit. The multiple transparent deformation units are disposed above the touchscreen, each of the deformation units is corresponding to a region on the touchscreen, and each of the deformation units is in an original shape. The first detection unit is used for detecting whether a virtual keyboard is displayed on the touchscreen, so as to obtain a first judgment result. The first determining unit is used for selecting at least one target character from characters comprised in the virtual keyboard when the first judgment result indicates that the virtual keyboard is displayed on the touchscreen, and is used for determining a display region of the target character on the touchscreen. The second determining unit is used for determining a target deformation unit corresponding to the display region from the multiple deformation units. The generation unit is used for generating an excitation source of an excitation target deformation unit. The target deformation unit is charged from the original shape to a target shape under the control of the excitation source. A true touch feeling can be provided for the electronic device.
