764,540. Lathe details. WALDRICH, O. May 4, 1954 [Nov. 28, 1953], No. 12971/54. Class 83 (3). A tool-rest and slide for a heavy lathe comprises a horizontal support arranged beneath the tool with its forward end close to the cutting edge and adapted to be moved with the tool, the support being upright and preferably of rectangular cross-section and of equal or greater length than the tool, a recess in the tool-slide below the tool guiding the support. The tool rest and slide 7, Fig. 1, is of U-shape having a central recess 17, Fig. 2, and side pieces 8. A tool 13 in the recess is supported by a support or packing-block 16. Side adjusting-screws 14 engage the tool and an end-screw 15, Fig. 1, completes its location. The tool is clamped by screws 12 carried by a bridge-piece which is secured by bolts 11, Fig. 2, across the top of the U. The tool is adjustably secured by a screw 20 near its cutting-point 19, Fig. 1, to the packing-piece 16. The tool may thus be pivoted relatively to the packing. Side packing-pieces 161, Fig. 2, which may be of wedge form, fill the recess 17. Roughing-tools may be arranged on the sides of the tool-rest in recesses 21, Fig. 3, supported on longitudinally-adjustable packing-pieces 22 secured by T-headed bolts 23. |
