769,138. Sewing machines. SOC. PER AZIONI VERGINIO RIMOLDI & C. May 3, 1955 [Feb. 4, 1955], No. 12824/55. Class 112. The needle of a sewing machine is driven by means of an arm one end of which is guided in a substantially rectilinear path and the other end of which is pivoted to a needlecarrying member capable of rectilinear movement in a guide, as driven oscillating member being pivoted to the arm intermediate the ends of the latter. As shown, the needle 12 is carried by a holder 11 which is mounted for rectilinear movement on a guide 10, and which is pivoted at 2 to one end of a driving arm 3. The other end of the latter is pivoted at 6 to one end of an arm 7 pivoted at its other end about a fixed axis 8. A crank pin 14, carried by a shaft 16 to which oscillating motion is imparted, is pivoted to the arm 3. Shaft 16 preferably has a maximum arc of oscillation of 60 degrees and is preferably situated midway between the pivots 2 and 6. The throw of the crank pin 14 is preferably one sixth of the distance between the pivots 2 and 6. Alternatively, arm 7 may be dispensed with and the end of arm 3 disposed in a rectilinear guide. |
