<p>An electronic device 2 is provided with a means for indicating to a blind or partially sighted person, the operational state of the device, or whether the device has malfunctioned. The device comprises a first portion 4 and a second portion 8, preferably in a hinged clamshell-type configuration. The first portion comprises a display 6 on an internal facing surface 24 comprising a plurality of pixels and configured to output a first optical state and a second optical state. The first portion is moveable between at least a first open position, figure 1a, and a second closed position relative to the second portion, figure 1b. The second portion comprises an optical detector 12 configured to detect the first and second optical states of a dedicated display area 14 when in the closed position. The device is then arranged to output an audible or tactile alarm signal if the second optical state has been detected. The optical detector may be arranged to detect the absence of light or a time modulated light output.</p> |
