Disclosed are a method for generating a one-time password and a device for the implementation thereof. The method for generating a one-time password includes: a step to receive user confidential information entered as the process for providing one-time password begins; a step to generate a response value based on the user′s confidential information and challenge value transmitted from a user authentication system to the user authentication system for the authentication of a user′s confidential information; and a step to generate a one-time password using at least one of the authenticated user′s confidential information, challenge value and response value. The present invention can, therefore, handle loss and theft of a user terminal and improve a security of the one-time password.
