The invention relates to a synchronous linear motor with permanent magnets intended for performing linear motion in machine-tools, laser cutting tables, optical instruments, packaging machines, robots, motion simulators and the like. According to the invention, the motor consists of an inductor () made of a ferromagnetic plate () on which two parallel rows of permanent magnets () of alternating polarities are fixed and of an armature () consisting of a series of U-shaped ferromagnetic poles () permitting the magnetic field to be closed from a row of permanent magnets () to the other row of permanent magnets (), on each ferromagnetic pole () there being coils () forming a polyphase alternating current winding.
