The present invention relates to a method for providing information when a mobile device is in a lock mode and a device thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the mobile device capable of providing the information in the lock mode includes: a sensing unit which provides the sensing information relevant to the state and motion of the mobile device; a state recognition module which uses either or both of the sensing information and user setting information to generate state recognition information; a control unit configuring the information to be displayed on a lock screen according to the state recognition information; and an output unit which displays the information configured by the control unit on the lock screen. Accordingly, the method of the present invention can provide a more effective lock screen to the user.
