METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR LIMITING RATE OF OPTICAL NETWORK UNIT (ONU) OVERALL

Provided are a method and device for limiting a rate of an ONU overall. The method comprises: receiving a multicast program sent from a multicast program server; replicating N+M copies of the multicast program, and sending N copies of the replicated multicast program to N passive optical network (PON) ports demanding the multicast program; and sending M copies of the replicated multicast program to M ONU rate-limiting units corresponding to M ONUs demanding the multicast program to perform ONU overall rate limiting, and discarding the M copies of the replicated multicast program after the completion of the ONU overall rate limiting. The method realizes real-time rate limiting on various ONUs in the case where a bandwidth of a PON is not affected by way of replicating a multicast packet, respectively sending the replicated multicast packet to an ONU rate-limiting unit corresponding to an ONU demanding the multicast packet to participate in ONU overall rate limiting, and discarding the multicast program after limiting the rate of the multicast program.
