Artificially activated radioactive source for a downhole tool

Methods and downhole tools relating to an artificially activated radioactive source for well logging are provided. Such a method may involve irradiating an otherwise substantially nonradioactive material to produce an artificially activated radioactive source that causes radiation to be emitted into a geological formation as the artificially activated radioactive source decays. The artificially activated radioactive source may be installed in a downhole tool. The downhole tool may be placed into a wellbore to perform a radiation-based logging operation using the radiation that is caused to be emitted into the geological formation by the artificially activated radioactive source.
