791,030. Handle-grips. SPALDING & BROS., Ltd., A. G. (Spalding & Bros. Inc., A. G.). Sept. 27. 1956. No. 29578/56. Class 132(2) A light weight grip for a golf club or other athletic implement is made of moulded rubber or plastic composition adapted to surround the end of the club shaft 12 and decreasing in thickness from the end of the shaft and having spaced, broad, integral, shaft-engaging ribs 14 on the inner surface forming shallow grooves 13 between. The depth of the grooves tapers with the tapering of the whole grip as shown in Fig. 2, terminating about three-quarters of the way down the shaft. The walls 15 of the grip overlying the grooves are sufficiently thick and the rubber composition is sufficiently firm to prevent its depression into the grooves and to resist torsional distortion. A cap 16 is also provided with a plug 17 which fits into the shaft and a flange 18 which fits over the end of the shaft and about the grip. The shaft fits into the circular slit 19 and recesses 20 are provided to reduce weight. The grip may be sleeve-like or spirally-wrapped.
|
