Polyvinyl chloride is stabilized against heat and light by incorporating a mixture of a metal, e.g. cadmium, salt of ricinoleic acid and a heterocyclic compound containing at least one group. Specified heterocyclic compounds are 2-mercaptobenzothiazol and the zinc salt, 2-mercapto-benzimidazol and the zinc salt, benzothiazyldisulphide, 2-benzo-thiazl-N-N1-diethylthiocarbamyl sulphide and 1,3 - bis - (2-benzothiazolyl - mercaptomethyl) urea. The compound and the metal salt are preferably incorporated in the polymer dissolved in a plasticizer, e.g. di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate, by heating to below 100 DEG C.
