METHOD FOR REMOVING STRONTIUM USING CRYSTALLIZATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of removing radioactive strontium from seawater or liquid derived from seawater.SOLUTION: A functional group selected from an ion exchange group, a chelate group, and a hydrophilic group is introduced into fibers by the use of a radiation graft polymerization method to allow an insoluble alkaline-earth metal to be deposited here. This material is made to be in contact with contaminated water that is controlled to be pH 9-10 with sodium carbonate, and therefore, calcium carbonate crystals are deposited on the fibers and radioactive strontium can be removed.
