PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of an internal combustion engine which can obtain favorable combustion stability and can suppress fuel consumption when switching homogeneous lean combustion and stoichiometric or rich combustion.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine comprises a variable valve mechanism, and an ignition plug. A control device makes a control amount of the variable valve mechanism and a control amount the ignition plug differ from each other between a homogeneous lean operation region which is defined in a first load range and a non-lean operation region being a stoichiometric or rich operation region which is defined in a second load range at a high-load side rather than the first load range. The control device controls an air-fuel ratio to a stoichiometric ratio in an operation region which is defined in a third load rage between the first load range and the second load range. The control device controls the variable valve mechanism at a control amount which is the same as the homogeneous lean operation region with respect to an accelerator pedal operation amount, and controls the ignition plug at a control amount which is the same as the non-lean operation region. |
