PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology which can, with high accuracy, extract an area where a target part is captured from a biological image obtained by radiography. ! SOLUTION: By using template matching, of a biological image, a target defined area where at least a part of a target part is captured and an undefined area where a part of the target part may be captured are detected. In so doing, a position of an area which captures a global area part of the target part and a position of an area which captures a local part included in the global part are detected and, according to a result of detection, a target candidate area including the target defined area and the undefined area are set with respect to the biological image.
