Disclosed are an optical transceiver of a tunable optical network unit (ONU) and a transmission and reception method thereof in a passive optical network (PON) system. An embodiment of the present invention relates to a multi-wavelength PON system, which has a plurality of operational wavelengths, including: a plurality of ONUs; and an optical line terminal (OLT) which is connected to the ONUs to be able to communicate with the ONUs through a predetermined optical distribution unit (ODN). Each ONU includes the tunable optical transceiver and a tunable optical receiver. The wavelength of output light of the tunable optical transceiver is determined based on the wavelength of light the tunable optical transceiver receives from the OLT.
