The present invention relates to a mobile terminal and a method for operating a rear input unit thereof to guide a function executable on a current screen to a front surface according user interaction for a rear input unit, wherein the method comprises the steps of: displaying content on a front display unit; sensing user interaction for a rear input unit; determining a function executable on a current screen among multi-functions set for the rear input unit based on the type of the sensed user interaction; and guiding the determined function to the front display unit.
