1. A method of preparing a polymer film comprising the following steps:
a) providing a layer of a polymerisable liquid-crystalline material comprising at least one dichroic photoinitiator onto a substrate, b) irradiating the liquid-crystalline material in its isotropic phase with linear polarised light, and c) optionally removing the polymerised film from the substrate.
