The present invention addresses the problem of providing an organic electroluminescence (EL) element for which the light-emission maximum wavelength is shorter, the light-emission lifetime is long, the drive voltage is low, the change over time of drive voltage is small, and even if used under a high temperature, changes in the external emission quantum efficiency are small. Further, the present invention addresses the problem of providing an illumination device and a display device that include the organic EL element. This organic EL element includes at least one light-emitting layer interposed between an anode and a cathode, wherein the organic EL element is characterized in that the light-emitting layer includes at least one type of phosphorescent emission organic metal complex having a structure represented by general formula (1).
