A dry rectifier assembly comprises stacks of rectifier elements 3 disposed in chambers 1d in a unitary ring-like housing 1c, at least onethird of the space inside the ring being left free for a fluid cooling medium and the distance between the inner and outer faces of the ring being less than half that between the axis and the outer face. As shown, the arrangement is in the form of a wheel, the ring like portion forming the rim which is joined to the hub 1a by a flange 1b. Slots le between the stacks facilitate fluid flow for cooling. The ends of the chambers may be closed by rings 2 and spring- urged contact members 5 so that various seriesparallel connection arrangements are possible. A plurality of such assemblies may be mounted axially in line, for example on a rod and connected together. The chambers may extend circumferentially to form a polygon instead of being parallel to the axis. Interconnection may also be effected through the hubs, and by use of bayonet-joints or split rings, if desired.</p> |
