APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR TRACKING VESSEL USING AIS TARGET INFORMATION

The present invention relates to a device which automatically tracks a vessel in a radar tracking system by using AIS target information which is collected in a vessel traffic service including a radar and an AIS reference station, and to a method thereof. The device which tracks the vessel by using the AIS target information comprises; a collecting unit which collects the AIS target information from the AIS reference station; an target information prediction unit which predicts the AIS target information at a radar detection time by using the time difference between a time receiving the AIS target information and a time when a radar label is detected in the radar tracking system; an target information extracting unit which determines whether the position of the AIS target information exists inside or outside radar masking area information, and extracts the AIS target information existing outside the radar masking information; a new target determination unit which compares a vessel unique identification number of the extracted AIS target information with radar target information, and determines whether the information is the AIS target information tracked by the radar tracking system or newly received AIS target information based on a comparison result; a new object registration unit which registers the AIS target information as a new target if it is determined that the extracted AIS target information is the newly received AIS target information; and an target information renewal unit which renews radar target information if it is determined that the extracted AIS target information is the AIS target information tracked by the radar tracking system.
