摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small illumination optical system, including the small number of components.SOLUTION: An illumination optical system 10 comprises a light source 11 emitting light of a first wavelength, a phosphor unit 16, an optical element 13, and a 1/4 wavelength plate 14 between the optical element 13 and the phosphor unit 16. The phosphor unit 16 includes a reflection region, and a phosphor region that emits fluorescent light of a wavelength different from the first wavelength by irradiation of light of the first wavelength. The phosphor unit 16 moves so that the phosphor region and the reflection region are sequentially irradiated with light from the light source 11. The optical element 13 splits the light of the first wavelength into a first linear polarization component and a second linear polarization component orthogonal to the first linear polarization component. The optical element 13 guides the first linear polarization component of the light emitted from the light source 11 to the phosphor unit 16, and emits, in the same direction, the light of the first wavelength reflected in the reflection region and fluorescent light generated in the phosphor region.
