The false twist device (9) comprises at least two driven belt drives (4, 5) for at least one belt, oriented opposite each other, arranged substantially transverse to the thread (3) and contacting the same, and the belt drives (4, 5) are wrapped by the thread (3), in particular in a Z shape, and serve as friction surfaces for the thread (3). At least one catch hook (23) is assigned to the at least one belt, which hook severs the thread (3) if said thread arrives in the region of the catch hook (23) due to an improper wrapping of the belt drum (4, 5).
