<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a powder storage container that directly detects the remaining amount of powder that remains inside a rotating container body; and an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A toner container 32Y is provided with a cylindrical container body 33Y that rotates around a longitudinal direction as a rotation axis direction to convey powder contained therein toward an opening on one end side in the longitudinal direction. The container body 33Y has light transmission units 33b1 to 33b4 formed at a plurality of positions separate from one another in the longitudinal direction, and different positions in the circumferential direction in such a manner to protrude to form convex portions toward the outside from the outer peripheral surface of the container body 33Y.
