The present invention relates to a photonic crystal display device and a manufacturing method for a photonic crystal display device. The photonic crystal display device includes a display area (100) and comprises: multiple magnetic particles (11) which move according to changes in an external magnetic field, leading changes in intervals among them; multiple optical absorbing particles (20) which can absorb incident light; and a solvent (12) where the multiple magnetic particles (11) and the multiple optical absorbing particles (20) are dispersed. The purpose of the present invention is to provide a photonic crystal display device and a manufacturing method thereof which can immediately absorb incident light penetrating the multiple magnetic particles by dispersing the optical absorbing particles inside a display area, can fundamentally prevent problems of optical interference and distortion inside the display area due to the optical absorbing particles, and can reduce manufacturing costs and thickness thereof by dispersing the optical absorbing particles inside the display area.
