PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify a position of a subject in an image more accurately than before. ! SOLUTION: A first generation unit of a subject identifying apparatus generates a reference density image by use of an average value of pixel values of an input image. A second generation unit generates a first image by subtracting a pixel value of the input image from a pixel value of the reference density image, and a second image by subtracting the pixel value of the reference density image from the pixel value of the input image, by use of a difference between the input image and the reference density image. A binary processing unit binarizes the first image and the second image, to generate a plurality of binarized images. A calculation unit calculates evaluation values indicating likelihood of a subject for each of the binarized images. An identifying unit extracts an object image from the binarized images by use of the evaluation values, to identify a position of the subject included in the image, on |
