APPARATUS AND METHOD OF DETECTING FAILURE OF SWITCHING DEVICE OF INVERTER SYSTEM

Provided is a switching device failure detection device of an inverter system and a method thereof. The switching device failure detection device of an inverter system is a device which detects the failure of a switching device in an inverter system including an initial charge unit for the inrush current prevention. The switching device failure detection device of an inverter system comprises; a direct current link voltage detection unit which detects voltage of a direct current link capacitor charged by the initial charge unit in real time; a pulse width modulation signal applying unit which applies a pulse width modulation signal which makes phase-to-phase voltage outputted from an inverter to be 0V to the switching device forming the inverter if a ratio of voltage of the direct current link capacitor and rated voltage of the direct current link capacitor satisfies a predetermined standard ratio; a detection unit which detects a failure of the switching device based on the connection unit voltage of the upper and lower switching devices forming the inverter. Therefore, a failure of the switching device can be detected with software without the separate addition of the hardware. Moreover, the expansion of damage to the other switching device and harmful effects to a motor and system power source to which the inverter is connected are prevented beforehand.
