PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an upward continuous casting apparatus and an upward continuous casting method capable of controlling a solidification interface within an appropriate reference range and ensuring the excellent dimensional accuracy and excellent surface quality of a mold even if molten metal is pulled up obliquely.SOLUTION: An upward continuous casting apparatus according to one aspect of the present invention includes: a holding furnace 101 holding molten metal M1; a shape defining member 102 installed on a molten metal surface of the molten metal M1 held in the holding furnace 101, and defining a sectional shape of a mold M3 to be cast by passing molten metal M2; an imaging unit picking up an image of the molten metal M2 passing through the shape defining member 102; an image analysis unit 110 detecting a fluctuation in the molten metal M2 from the image, and determining a solidification interface based on presence/absence of the fluctuation; and a casting control unit 111 changing a casting condition if the solidification interface determined by the image analysis unit 110 is not within a predetermined reference range. The casting control unit 11 uses different reference ranges depending on pull-up angles of the molten metal M2. |
