PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insulation coated wire and production method thereof that can surely maintain the bent shape.SOLUTION: The wire body W comprises a conductor 10, an insulation coat 20 and a shape retaining material 40. The insulation coat 20 has a bulged portion 24 bulging so as to be spaced apart from the outer peripheral surface of the conductor 10 toward outside in the radial direction. The wire body W is bent at the bulged portion 24. The shape retaining material 40 fixes the bent shape of said bulged portion 24 by being placed in the inside of said bent bulged portion 24.
