A wireless communication system is provided with: a first node of a transmission source that comprises a wireless communication function; a second node of a transmission destination that has a wireless communication function; and one or more third nodes that are provided with a function for relaying wireless communication between the first node and the second node. The first node and one or more of the third nodes transmit data by broadcast in a state in which a communication path for transmitting data from the first node to the second node is not established. When a transmission destination is established in at least one section of the communication path from the first node to the second node, a node for which the transmission destination is established from among the first node and one or more of the third nodes transmits data by unicast. This wireless communication system makes it possible to reduce the probability of the collision of transmitted data when building a communication path.
