<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transient travel simulation apparatus and method capable of objectively and accurately estimating the performance of an engine in a transient state. <P>SOLUTION: A transient travel simulation apparatus 10 comprises travel frequency table data d5, and optimal solution data d6 storing optimal solutions extracted from transient drive data d4 measured for an acceleration time of a higher frequency than a predetermined frequency among frequencies of acceleration times stored in the travel frequency table data d5. The transient travel simulation apparatus 10 then acquires a set of optimal solutions from the optimal solution data d6, creates an approximate model on the basis of the acquired set of optimal solutions, calculates the performance of an engine from the created approximate model and travel mode data d2, and determines whether or not a predetermined specific value is satisfied.
