1. An optoelectronic pickup, comprising:
at least one light source configured to direct light to impinge an instrument string of a musical instrument; a plurality of photoreceivers configured to detect light emitted by the at least one light source and reflected from the instrument string, the plurality of photoreceivers electrically coupled such that an electrical signal generated by a particular photoreceiver is inverted relative to an electrical signal generated by a photoreceiver adjacent to the particular photoreceiver; and a filter arrangement coupled to one or both of the at least one light source and the plurality of photoreceivers, the filter arrangement configured to control affects of spurious light upon an electrical signal produced by the plurality of photoreceivers, the spurious light comprising light energy that impinges the plurality of photoreceivers and is unrelated to a condition of the instrument string.
