In a pneumatically or hydraulically operated piston and cylinder device for moving a sliding door, the piston rod and cylinder being anchored one to the door and the other to a stationary part of the surrounding structure, the piston rod anchorage comprises a friction coupling which holds the piston rod during normal door-operating thrusts but allows it to become free from its anchorage if the door is subjected to a thrust exceeding a predetermined value. In the device illustrated the bullet-shaped nose 20 of the piston rod 12 is frictionally held by a clip or clamp comprising a fixed part 21 and a similar part 22 biased towards the first part by springs 23. Pilot release valves may be provided to control the exhaust of fluid from the cylinder as the door approaches the limit of its travel in either direction to produce an adjustable buffer effect, and similar valves may be provided to relieve the fluid pressure in the event of the door becoming obstructed.</p> |
