PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of precisely calculating brightness at each position on a light emission face of a surface light source comprising plural sub-surface light sources at a small calculation amount.SOLUTION: A brightness calculation device according to the present invention for calculating brightness at a calculation object position on a light emission surface when light is emitted from plural light sources has: setting means for setting the calculation object position on the light emission surface; division means for dividing the plural light sources into plural division regions according to the calculation object position set by the setting means; and calculation means for calculating the brightness at the calculation object position by the light source for each division region, totaling calculation results for each division region, and calculating the brightness at the calculation object position when light is emitted from the plural light sources. The division means divides the light sources out of a predetermined range from the calculation object position more roughly than the light sources within the predetermined range from the calculation object position.
