The present invention relates to a preparation method of a propylene-based polymer. The preparation method of a propylene-based polymer according to the present invention can effectively prepare a propylene-based polymer having a large molecular weight and balanced properties by using a metallocene catalyst for excellent propylene homo polymerization activation and alpha olefin copolymerization activation. The method includes polymerizing propylene or propylene and alpha-olefin having at least four carbon atoms in presence of a catalyst composition having a transition metal compound represented by the following chemical formula 1.
